Queer Artist Fund 2024
Open call for artists
The Queer Artist Fund is a groundbreaking initiative by Obodo aimed at supporting and strengthening LGBTQ+ artists in Nigeria. At Obodo, we believe in the transformative power of art and its ability to shape narratives, challenge norms, and foster inclusivity. The fund is dedicated to providing resources and a platform for queer artists to explore, express, and amplify their narratives.
The Queer Artist Fund seeks to amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ artists in Nigeria, providing a platform for creative expression, dialogue, and community building. We invite artists across various mediums to submit their projects that explore the politics of queerness, challenge societal norms, and contribute to the rich tapestry of cultural production in Nigeria.
Seven individual artists will receive financial support up to $3000 to bring their projects to life, along with mentorship, workshops, and opportunities for public exhibition. The fund is open to projects in diverse artistic disciplines, including visual arts, performance, and multimedia.
Submissions must be original works and should explore the politics of queerness, addressing social change, cultural preservation, and the amplification of queer experiences in Nigeria. The focus is on artists using creative expression to explore, critique, and challenge societal norms, prejudices, and discriminatory practices related to LGBTQ+ individuals.
The submission portal is has closed. Thank you to all who have applied. Our panel will review submissions and be in touch with applicants soon.
